What is the kind of quality of water I can expect from rainwater?
Rainwater is naturally soft (unlike well water), contains almost no dissolved minerals and it is free of chemical treatment. Rainwater quality almost always exceeds that of ground or surface waters. It does not come in contact with soil and rocks where it dissolves salts and minerals or chemicals found in surface water. In the storage tank, bacterial buildup can occur so it is best to treat the water before drinking it. This is the same precautions you should use with the current piped water system due to the leakage of sewage into the water pipes.
