What is the Justice Research Consortium?
The Justice Research Consortium (JRC) is a partnership of criminal justice and research institutions dedicated to testing the effectiveness of restorative justice in the UK. The Consortium was formed in late 2000 to offer its plan to the Home Office Research, Development and Statistics Branch, which has awarded a grant to the JRC under the Governments Crime Reduction Programme. The JRCs criminal justice agencies include the Metropolitan Police Service, the Northumbria Police, the National Probation Service-Thames Valley, the Prison Service at H.M. Prison Bullingdon, Oxford Community Mediation and the Thames Valley Police. The JRCs research institutions developing the controlled tests of restorative justice are the University of Pennsylvania and the Australian National University, a partnership with six years experience in testing restorative justice with the Australian Federal Police (see www.aic.gov.au/rjustice/rise/index.
