What is the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman?
Jurisdiction extends to questions about, or problems with, City of Detroit government. The Office has the power to subpoena documents and records necessary to conduct investigations to resolve complaints from most departments. The Office of the Ombudsman can also hold public hearings regarding complaint matters. The Office of the Ombudsman does not have jurisdiction over elected officials, Federal, State or County governmental agencies, courts, libraries, the Detroit Public School system, or private businesses.
