What is the Judicial Volunteer Program?

0

The Alabama Judicial Volunteer Program in the Administrative Office of Courts is designed to provide an umbrella of meaningful, quality volunteer services benefiting the public and court systems. Included in the program at this time are: Juvenile Conference Committee and the District Court Mediation. Both programs are authorized by Rule 42, Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration (ARJA). The Juvenile Conference Committee is concerned with preventing future misconduct of young people. It is specifically designed for first-time offenders of nonviolent crimes. Panels consisting of five to nine community volunteers engage in a Question/Answer session with a juvenile held in a local public building such as a library or bank conference room. After questioning, the panel will determine the situation concerning the specific case and recommend sanctions to the Juvenile Court Judge for the child to be held accountable for their offense.
