What is the JMU alcohol and drug policy?
The Office of International Programs has established an alcohol and drug policy for all students who study abroad with a JMU program. Here is the policy, dated March 16, 2004, quoted directly: “Alcohol “James Madison University prohibits the illegal or otherwise irresponsible use of alcohol by students. It is the responsibility of every student to know the risks associated with alcohol use and abuse. This responsibility obligates students to know relevant University policies and federal, state, and local laws and to conduct themselves in accordance with these policies and laws. JMU students traveling abroad may be studying in countries where the legal age for alcohol consumption and/or rules regarding the consumption of alcohol are different than in the United State. Thus, while overseas, it is the responsibility of the student to know the relevant country and local laws concerning the possession, use, and abuse of alcohol.
