The JAMES FARMER SCHOLARS PROGRAM is a program designed to work with area students. It is named in honor of Spotsylvania County resident, Dr. James Farmer, a renowned civil rights leader. The program started in 1987 and is administered by University of Mary Washington. The program’s purpose is to increase the number of African-American youths who are academically prepared to succeed in college.
