What is the ingredients and the amount needed to make bricks out of sludge (residue from calcium carbide)?
The residue from calcium carbide is calcium hydroxide- Ca(OH)2. This is the primary compound found in the commercial product known as hydrated lime. Hydrated lime contains about 95% calcium hydroxide. Hydrated lime is commonly used to make mortar, combined with cement, sand, and water. This is the mortar used for laying concrete blocks, brick, and stone in buildings. You can use a mix of 1 part Portland cement, 1-2 parts hydrated lime, and 3 parts sand to make a hard setting mortar that will make bricks or any other form you prefer. I’ve included some links explaing calcium hydroxide with a MSDS link.
