What is the influence of smoking on acute myocardial infarction and hemorrhagic stroke in women who use the combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP) vs. non-OCP users?
Compared with non-smoking non- OCP users the additional mortality attributable to smoking is three to four times greater (5.4/100,000 users per year) than that attributable to the combined OCP use (1.4/100,000 users per year). The addition of smoking and combined OCP use results in an additional 14 deaths per 100,000 women annually.
