What is the influence of Hammurabis Code on American law practices?
The greatest idea Hammurabi came up with was,”Ignorance of the law is no excuse”.That means that as long as law is codified and written down the public can be forewarned of their rights and responsibilities. Until then judgments infractions against societal customs was up to the whim of the ruling authority. This is the basis of law in Western Civilization.Many of H.’s laws are directly the same as some of the Ten Commandments too and suggests a common origin.
