What is the incubation period of scabies?

Well, you can take or leave this answer, but its my theory. I think the concept of a so called “incubation” period for scabies is a bit of a mis-nomer. Basically as I understand it, they jump on you, burrow into yourskin and start defacating and laying eggs. Generally what people think of as the incubation period for scabies is probably in fact the length of time it takes for an individual to develop a sort of allergy to the proteins associated with the mite. The actual lifecycle of the organism could well be turning over much quicker than the 4 or so weeks it takes for most people to show a reaction. This seems to be evidenced by the fact that individuals who have been previously infected or “sensitized” to them show a reaction within days.
