Friendship is important because you need someone who you know will be there for you. Family is always there for you, but you need friends to go to when you need to talk about something that cannot be shared with the family. Friends are people who understand you, care about you, and are willing to listen to and help you with any thing you may be going through. I was on crutches in sixth grade, and I had a friend who would always help me out. We didn’t sit together in class (in fact I believe we were on opposite sides of the room) and he would still help me to my chair, hold the door for me, wait for me at the end of the line, stay and talk with me at recess, and offer to help me with my bag *which was heavy* on top of carrying his own bag *which was even heavier*. I am very grateful to my friend for helping me through that time of my life and others. That is what friends are for. They help you when you need it, they listen, and they care. Friends are some of the greatest people you can
