What is the importance of a herbarium in PGR programmes?
The herbarium is a tool in programmes related to identification and distribution of diversity in crop genepools, wild and weedy species of economic importance and potential importance. Species are represented in the National Herbarium of Cultivated Plants (NHCP) as herbarium specimens, seed samples or economic products and serve as aids for identifying the plant on the basis of morphological features in relation to the habitat characteristics and distribution pattern.
