What is the impact of interferon therapy on MS?
LISA CAPOLINO, RN: Interferon therapy makes a very big difference in people’s lives. Number one, we found that by starting treatment early, you have a better prognosis than if you wait until you’ve already developed problems. Once you have weakness or visual disturbances and you start using interferon therapy, it’s not as effective as when you start a newly-diagnosed patient. The other thing is, by starting interferon therapy, a patient is actually taking charge of their disease, and they’re doing something positive to help slow it down. So that makes a patient feel good about themselves.
