A NEW STUDY WITH THE YWCA OF DAYTON AND INTERNET PROVIDER EARTHLINK SEEKS TO FIND OUT Internet Service Provider Launches Third City in Study Designed to Separate Email and Internet Usage; Study Focuses on People Who Have Had Little or No Exposure to Email DAYTON, Ohio March 3, 2003 — EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), one of the nation’s leading Internet service providers, today announced that the YWCA of Dayton, Ohio, has been selected to participate in a multiple-city pilot study exploring the impact of email on interpersonal communications. In contrast to most studies that have looked at Internet usage as a whole, the EarthLink study exclusively examines the impact of email on people’s lives. The study identifies people who have been unable to use email due to a variety of barriers and examines how having email access impacts their relationships with friends and family. In Dayton, EarthLink has partnered with the YWCA to identify volunteers who will receive free email access for three months
