What is the ideal Show Hunter type?
“An ideal Show Hunter is a quality horse, but a horse with substance suitable to carry an adult across the hunting field. We are looking for a horse with a short, flat cannon bone, a very long muscular forearm, with hocks and knees close to the ground and a powerful second thigh. It would have a deep girth, a wide chest, with a handsome well set on head and clean through the throat. I would want a good length of rein with a laid back shoulder and big muscular quarters and good shaped feet. Hunters are more robust and workmanlike than the Hacks, but they still must be quality animals with substance. Moving we want the Hunter to have a very good, long walk stride that overtracks. The trot should be athletic with a moment of suspension above the ground and a long, low stride moving from the top of the shoulder, however a moderate amount of knee action is acceptable.
