What is the IACPs role in the VIPS Program?
The International Association of Chiefs of Police manages and implements the Volunteers in Police Service Program on behalf of the White House Office of the USA Freedom Corps and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice. IACP’s role in VIPS is to 1) compile information about the state of volunteerism in law enforcement, 2) produce and create resource tools, education, and technical assistance to support the growth of volunteerism in law enforcement, 3) deliver materials and products to build the capacity of law enforcement agencies to utilize volunteers, and 4) continually assess project activities and the state of volunteerism in law enforcement. IACP is the world’s oldest and largest law enforcement professional organization, with 20,000 members in 100 countries.
