What is the HTML META element?
The HTML META element , also known as the meta tag, exists in the HEAD element. The meta tag for the META element does not use a closing tag. Its attributes can be used to give information to a user agent such as keywords, document author and most importantly the character set it is using. A search engines sometimes uses meta tags to quickly gather information about HTML documents.
