What is the Honor Code?
The mission of the honor code is: Honor is about academic integrity, moral and ethical conduct, and pride of membership in a community that values academic achievement and individual responsibility. Cultivating honor lays the foundation for lifelong integrity, developing in each of us the courage and insight to make difficult choices and accept responsibility for actions and their consequences, even at personal cost. As citizens of an academic community of trust, CU-Boulder students do not lie or cheat whether they are on campus or acting as representatives of the university in surrounding communities. Neither should they suffer by the dishonest acts of others. For more information on the Honor Code, go to www.colorado.edu/honorcode.
The statement “I have been honest and have not observed any dishonesty” gives testament to the Honor Code and should be pledged in writing on all academic work. Compliance is assumed even if the statement does not appear on college work. Faculty members may insist that the statement be written on all academic work and may refuse to extend credit for work on which it does not appear. In addition to adherence to the Honor Code, students are expected to confront other students who have apparently violated the Honor Code and to report such violations. A failure to confront or report such a violation may be considered a violation of the Honor Code. Contact Steve Shapiro for more information.
