What is the Holocaust Claims Processing Office?
• The Holocaust Claims Processing Office (HCPO) is part of the New York State Banking Department. It was established by Governor George E. Pataki on June 25, 1997. The HCPO s mission is threefold: • Recover assets deposited in European banks. • Recover monies never paid in connection with insurance policies issues by European insurers. • Recover lost or looted art. • In order to file a claim, all assets must have been deposited, lost, looted or stolen prior to or during the Second World War. The HCPO will accept claims from any person, regardless of ethnic, religious or national background.
