What is the history of Upward Bound?
Upward Bound is funded by the Department of Education and is also know as a TRIO program. TRIO programs were established in 1964 to promote access to and success in higher education. Other TRIO programs include Education Talent Search, Upward Bound Math Science, and Dissemination. At colleges, there are Student Support Services, Upward Bound Veterans and McNair to help students succeed. Education Opportunity Centers help adults who are interested in enrolling in higher education. These programs are grant-funded and so colleges and other organizations must reapply for regularly, usually every 5 years.
