Blue Peter is one of the BBC’s longest running TV shows. It started in October 1958 having been devised by John Hunter Blair. Its first editor was Biddy Baxter and she stayed with the programme until the late 1980s. It is named after the blue and white flag hoisted by ships in port when they are ready to sail. The programme was devised as a voyage of adventure and sicovery for viewers, constantly discovering new topics. The original show was 1 15 minute programme each week with the two presenters demonstrating dolls and model railways. The format has developed over the years to reflect the changing times, with the current show being on three times a week for 25 minutes each show, and due to the heavy workload, the programme has four presenters. The show has had many famous moments, many of which when things have gone wrong. Nearly all the shows are live, and that’s always been the case, and probably the most famous incident was when Lulu the elephant misbehaved in the studio in 1969, a
