What is the history of the Senate?
There have been eleven volunteer Chancellors since senate started in 1966. Chancellors Emeriti are: Campbell McLaurin; William Friley; Muriel Kovitz; Louis Lebel; Brian Norford; James Palmer; David Smith; Ann McCaig, Jack Perraton and William Warren. The University’s President is appointed by the Board and acts as the University’s CEO. Dr. Harvey Weingarten took up office in September 2001 as the University’s seventh President and Vice-Chancellor. The President chairs many important University committees including the General Faculties Council, which is the academic decision making body for U of C.
