What is the history of the introduction of the Japanese beetle into the United States?
Japanese beetles were accidentally introduced into New Jersey from Japan on the roots of nursery stock in approximately 1916. Currently, Japanese beetles are well establised in most states east of the Mississippi River. In Illinois, Japanese beetles are most frequently encountered in east-central counties, however, they can be found in every major urban area of the state.
