What is the history of MCP and Hahnemann?
Hahnemann University was founded in 1848 as the Homeopathic Medical College of Pennsylvania. After a rift among faculty and trustees, it came together again in 1869 under a new name: Hahnemann Medical College of Pennsylvania, in honor of the father of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann. (Homeopathy regards symptoms as the body s attempt to restore health, and prescribes a remedy, in minute doses, for its ability to mimic the disease symptoms, thereby stimulating the body to heal itself.) Hahnemann achieved university status in 1981, becoming Hahnemann University. The Female Medical College of Pennsylvania was founded in 1850 by several Quaker physicians and philanthropist,William Mullen. In 1867, the name was changed to Woman s Medical College of Pennsylvania in recognition of an increasing regard for the dignity of woman and as a reflection of the Woman Movement of the era.
