What is the history of LASIK?
Keratomileusis, (shaping the cornea,) has evolved since 1963. In 1985, the first excimer laser procedure was performed. The two technologies were combined in 1989 in Crete, Greece. Since then, much of the experience with LASIK has occurred abroad where regulatory oversight is not as stringent. Currently, in the U.S.A., LASIK has become the most frequently performed procedure for shaping the cornea to correct vision.
