What is the history of Infomercials?

Posted by Your Guide on October 16, 2005 2:08 PM Todays infomercials are much different from the televised sales pitches of the 1960s. This was when infomercials were about 5-10 minutes long and confined to promotions that told viewers that a product existed and motivated consumers to go to the nearest retailer to buy the product. Basically, it just a longer version of the average television commercial we see today. Today, television is considered the top avenue for advertising. They go beyond product promotion and give the consumer the opportunity to purchase the product immediately. This concept used to only be used in mailing advertisements, but is now dominantly used for television since 98% of people in the United States own television sets.
