Denver, similar to many cities around the country, were adorned with small candy businesses. Many confectioneries had the factories in the back of the building, the small retail store in the front and the family living in the loft above. This is where the true American Candy Maker was born. Confections were hand made with pride, but had to be unique in order to stand out amidst the healthy competition in the community. Denver proved to be a wonderful place to produce hard candy and high cooked confections because of the low humidity. How many handmade candy makers still exist?
