What is the history of East Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York?
First settled in 1759, East Fishkill wasn’t established until 1849 by Dutch settlers who named the town of East Fishkill after the local “stream full of fishes” or vis kill in Dutch. Crossing the Appalachian Trail, East Fishkill is 57.3 square miles of the easternmost portion of Fishkill. Historical sites such as the Brinckerhoff House, the Palen House and the many Dutch colonial farmhouses will give any New York tourist a sense of this culturally, socially and historically rich area of the Hudson Valley and upstate New York at large.
