What is the history of CIL in Ottawa?
The former municipalities of Ottawa and Vanier established Cash-in-lieu of Parking processes, while the other former municipalities did not. Ottawa and Vanier each established a process to be followed, approval criteria to be met, and levies to be paid for each exempted parking space. These processes continue to be in place. Between amalgamation (January 2001) and May 2008, 137 applications were processed to completion, 1,105 parking spaces were exempted, and Cash-in-lieu levies totalling $1,781,996.55 were collected.
