What is the history of 3D imaging?
3D imaging began in the 70’s when the first CT scanners were developed. Originally it was software that was on the scanner, and the images were viewed on the scanner screen or on film. As personal computers evolved, the software moved to 3D workstations and the images were transferred from the scanner to the workstation for processing. The development of high-speed multi-detector CT scanners and digital radiology departments has created a much higher demand for 3D imaging in recent years. Some large academic centers have established 3D imaging labs with technologists dedicated to producing 3D images.
