What is the history & development of Coca-Cola Amatil?
In 1904 a company named British Tobacco (Australia) was formed. In 1964, the structure of the company changed to include soft drink, snack food and frozen food divisions under the company name of APD. At this time, the purchase of the controlling interest in Coca-Cola Bottlers (Perth) Pty Ltd became the Companys first association with The Coca-Cola Company. In 1977, the Company became AMATIL (Allied Manufacturing and Trading Industries Limited). In 1989, The Coca-Cola Company became the major shareholder, and AMATIL became Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd. In the years following, the snack food division was sold (1992), the European operations demerged (1998) and the acquisition of South Korean bottling franchise completed (1998). Coca-Cola Amatil is now the fifth largest bottler within the Coca-Cola system.
