Students were required to select a topic that fit within this year’s national theme of INNOVATION in History: Impact and Change. Most students have selected inventions as their innovation. However, innovative ideas in history may also be used as topics. The innovative devices and ideas that have produced the most significant impact and change in history will do the best during the competition. When is the History Day Contest? We are aiming to hold the Mokapu Elementary History Day Contest in December 2009. Projects that win at the school level will move on to the Windward District competition in February 2010. When do students work on History Day? Students have been receiving History Day lessons during their visits to the library. So far we have covered choosing topics, historical context (what came before their innovation), and impacts (what changed in history because of the innovation).
