Officials say Cpl. Dennis Engelhard had stopped to assist Eureka Police after an accident there about 9:30 Christmas morning. Engelhard waited with the people involved in the original crash for a tow truck. After about forty minutes, he got out of his car. It was just about the time an oncoming S-U-V lost control. “He exited his vehicle and walked to the rear of his vehicle where he was struck by an SUV,” MSHP Sergeant Jeff Wilson told reporters near the scene.
