What is the histogram?
The histogram gives the photographer feedback on the distribution of the light and dark tones in the image. When it is enabled, it is displayed on the LCD screen or electronic viewfinder in real time. The SP-565UZ has two types of histograms. The standard histogram displays the brightness range of the camera as a graph. The left side of the graph indicates highlights (red) and the right side of the graph indicates shadows (blue). On each end of the graph is a space indicating highlight and shadow values that fall outside of the cameras brightness range and which will have no saved detail when the image is taken. The photographer has the option of changing settings such as Exposure Compensation, Contrast, and Saturation to fit the tones within the histogram. The SP-565UZ also has a DIRECT histogram option that displays areas in the viewed image that will be lacking detail in the saved image. Highlights with no detail are displayed in red, and shadows with no detail are displayed in blue
