What is the HISD M/WBE program?
In order to advocate fair and equitable opportunities for the participation of M/WBE firms, HISD is committed to providing opportunities in the areas of purchasing, professional services, and construction. We define an M/WBE firm as a business enterprise that is at least 51% owned by one of the following socially/economically disadvantaged groups — African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Native-American, and Women. In order to register with HISD as an M/WBE, that firm must be certified by the City of Houston, the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council, and/or the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance.
