What is the Highway Improvement Program for?
To plan for the improvement of the county highway system over the next five years. The Five Year Program is the scheduling component of the county’s Long Range Transportation Plan. A highway project takes several years of study and engineering to properly address roadway design, drainage, environmental, and public coordination issues. The Five Year Program is a continual process. Most of the projects in this program are in varying stages of readiness carried over from previous programs. Some projects are being planned with the assistance of federal funding, and many are joint projects with railroads and municipalities.
