What is the highest volcano in the US?
The highest volcano in the U.S. is Mt. Bona in Alaska at just under 16,500 ft. According to the list at http://www.americasroof.com/fourteeners.shtml, it’s the 5th tallest U.S. mountain overall. Mt. Bona hasn’t erupted in a REALLY long time and some Web sites label it inactive. There is a nice overview of it and its mountain range, the Wrangell Mountains here: http://www.alaskageography.com/essays/volcanoes.htm Mauna Kea doesn’t crack 14,000 feet (see http://www.climb.mountains.com/Project_Island_files/HI_13ers.htm) so that makes it shorter than Mt. Rainier in Washington State, which qualifies as the highest volcano in the lower 48. Sources: http://www.alaskageogra
