What is the highest paid field of Law?
The law is undoubtedly a crowded profession these days, so your question is not easy to answer. If you are referring to different branches of the profession, even that is complex. I have come across Legal Executives being paid more than Solicitors and I have come across Solicitors who are paid more than Barristers. I have also come across Barristers who are paid rather more than the leading Judges. So the label is not as important as some may believe. If you are looking at the different areas, this is also difficult, as things seem to go in cycles. Just a few years ago, conveyancers were in short supply and salaries reflected this, but earlier this year, with property sales dwindling, they were being laid off. The same is also true for company/commercial lawyers. The best advice is to ignore what happens to be “flavour of the month” and, instead, aspire to be the best in your branch of the profession in whatever field you happen to be in.
