What is the highest amount available in the Federal Direct Stafford loan program each year?
Amounts are limited based on your status and costs. Students may borrow no more than $3500 for year one and $4500 for year two. “Year Two” is defined as at least 45 credits passed toward your major. Independent students may borrow up to an additional $6000 in unsubsidized loan. In no case may a student borrow more in loans than their costs justify.
