First, Baptist is not a religion but a denomination. I am a Baptist…first there is God, then the pastor, then the deacons. Deacons are also referred to as elders. Your example of the Catholic church is actually quite different in my opinion, because the Catholic church is a separate religion and has its own organization. The Baptist church is a variation of the Christian religion…the pastor of a certain church answers only to God and his congregation. There is no one in the Baptist organization that is equilavent to the Pope.
