What is the Hero of Hope award?
The Ohio Division of the American Cancer Society established the Hero of Hope Research Medal of Honor awards in 2001 to recognize the contributions Ohio cancer researchers and their respective institutions make toward the advancement of cancer research. Since then, 18 scientists and research champions have been recognized with the award. The 2009 Hero of Hope honoree is Dr. Clark Distelhorst, professor of Pharmacology and Medicine at Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine. After 2009, the future of the program is under consideration.
