What is the Hennepin County Childrens Mental Health Collaborative?
The Minnesota Comprehensive Children’s Mental Health Act (Minnesota Statutes Sections 245.487 – 245.4887) states that a comprehensive, unified, and accountable children’s mental health system must be established. In Hennepin County, the Children’s Mental Health Collaborative (CMHC) acts as the governing, advisory, and coordination bodies required by the Act. The CMHC is comprised of three parts: the Governance and Policy Group, the Operations Group, and the Parent’s Circle. These three groups meet all the statutorily required mandates of the Act. • The Governance and Policy Group is made up of school superintendents, county staff including a board member, children’s mental health, and child protection, community members, parents of children with mental health issues, service providers, community corrections, and a pediatrician, a psychologist, and a child psychiatrist.
