What is the Heisman Trophy?
This question has been asked by so many people. Everyone has a different opinion and each one should be respected. However, this year is the first year that I can remember in recent history that the Heisman has gone to the one who truly deserves it. Instead of going to the best player on the best team it went to arguably the best player in college football. Yes, Ingram is the best player on the best team as well but that, in my opinion, is just a coincidence. For the longest time the Heisman has been a beauty contest. Usually the quarterback on the best team is given the trophy. I was glad to see this year that it went to someone who truly deserved it. However, maybe it’s time for us to redefine the qualifications that guide the awarding of the trophy. At it’s inception, the trophy was supposed to go to the best overall player in college football regardless of their position or rather or not their team was playing for a national title.
