What is the heart of the city of Chicago called?
The Loop is the central downtown area of the city with the famous stores and theaters. It has been the heart of the city since the 19th Century. During the 1950’s and 1960’s before Malls, the big shopping trips were on the train to Union Station and then walking to Michigan Avenue. Marshall FIelds was one of the most important stops during the shopping trip. The Theaters and fine dining at places like Berghoff’s were also reason to take the train or car into the city.
