What is The Hague?
The Hague is NOT the capital city of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the capital. The Hague is the seat of government. It is home to local, national, and international organizations. The Netherlands is NOT also know as “Holland.” The Netherlands is a country in Europe, surrounded by the North Sea to the North and West, by Germany to the East, and by Belgium to the South. The Netherlands has twelve regions, two of which include the name “Holland,” those being North Holland (including Amsterdam) and South Holland (including “The Hague”). Dutch people in the other ten regions are insulted when being referred to as Holland, rather they will bluntly correct you and say, “We live in the Netherlands.
