What is the great kalahari debate?
The recent Kalahari debate has been over whether the Bushmen should be allowed to continue living out in the desert, hunting and living off the land as their ancestors have done for centuries or whether they should be rounded up and forced to live in houses in small villages like “us” so the “we” can exploit what the Bushmen consider to be ‘their’ land for oil, diamonds, luxury camping resorts for tourists etc….things they have no interest in or need for. There’s far more to it that this but it has basically centred on whether our, Western lifestyle is “best” so should be imposed on everyone, whether they want it or not. In a recent ruling, the Bushmen won.
