What is the Grand Recognition Ceremony?
Each year Duke TIP hosts a Grand Ceremony at Duke University to honor the students in our 16-state region who meet the Grand level qualifying score criteria. This year, the ceremony will be held in Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke University, Durham, NC on Monday, May 19, 2008. The ceremony itself is similar to a graduation ceremony in that there is a keynote speaker and each honoree is called onto the stage to receive a medallion and shake hands with dignitaries. If you qualify for the Grand Ceremony you will receive a separate invitation in early April.
Each year CTY hosts a Grand Ceremony at Johns Hopkins University to honor the students from around the world who meet the Grand level qualifying score criteria. The 2008 Grand Ceremony was held in Shriver Hall at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. The ceremony itself is similar to the State Awards ceremony, but the students receive a medal rather than a certificate, and the keynote speech is longer and more in-depth. Past speakers have talked about such topics as the sinking of the Titanic and metal strength; the Hubble telescope and its applications for space exploration and photography; and international research and advances in infectious diseases. After the recognition ceremony, the honorees and their families enjoy lunch, campus tours, and other activities. Family members are encouraged to attend and be a part of this special day. If you qualify for the Grand Ceremony, you will receive a separate invitation in the mail.
