What is the governments reaction to the use of cluster munitions by Israel in the conflict?
It is for the Government of Israel to respond to allegations of the misuse of cluster munitions which we note they have done, denying any breach of international humanitarian law (IHL). The UK is committed to upholding IHL. We would expect the Israeli government to investigate any well-founded allegations of misuse of munitions by its armed forces, just as the UK would do. Our Embassy in Israel is pursuing further responses to the allegations from the Israeli authorities and we will continue to monitor the situation, studying carefully any further authoritative reports that emerge. We also fully support the aims of Protocol V of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons which will come into force in November. We are currently making the necessary arrangements for ratification.
