What is the Golden Alga Task Force?
This is a group of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) personnel organized to manage the departmental response to golden alga issues and problems. Members of the task force include fish hatchery, fisheries, and aquatic biologists from the Inland and Coastal Fisheries divisions with additional personnel as needed; Dr. David Sager coordinates the task force. The task force coordinates and interacts with other agencies and universities to address golden alga issues and is responsible for administering federal grant and legislatively-authorized research funds to address golden alga problems in Texas. The mission of the TPWD Golden Alga Task Force is to protect aquatic ecosystems by understanding toxic golden algal blooms and to avoid, minimize, and mitigate their impacts through coordination and collaboration with stakeholders.
