What is the goal of the National Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program?

0

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Prevention Act (P.L. 101-354) was enacted into law in 1990. This Act established the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The program’s purpose is to reduce mortality from breast and cervical cancers by establishing, expanding, and improving community-based screening services. Essential components of the program include: public and provider education, community assessment, outreach to high-risk populations, surveillance, screening, case management, follow-up and quality assurance.
